For all its bad press, “culture shock” can sometimes produce positive results. Take, for instance, the experience of Compuware’s Lisa Augustyniak, who visited earthquake-battered Haiti this past summer.

In this country of mind -numbing misery, she was touched to see the Haitians’ positive outlook and determination in the face of such daunting circumstances. And she found out why “it is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Augustyniak, a compensation analyst, has been with Compuware about 15 years. She took vacation time to go on a mission trip as part of a 13-member team hosted by Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Bloomfield Hills. When it comes to Compuware’s Toys for Tots campaign, this year was one for the records.

With 825 toys collected, Compuware was the largest single contributor to the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots East Detroit Chapter, which includes Detroit’s east side, Eastpointe, Grosse Pointe and Harper Woods. The chapter serves more than 1,500 families each Christmas. Last year, Compuware was the second highest contributor.

Compuware’s Military Veterans Employee Resource Group sponsors the campaign, which this year was expanded to include Quicken Loans, Hard Rock Café and other local businesses. The abundance of toys was the greatest ever in the campaign’s three-year holiday drive. (more…)

She may not be featured in fashion magazines, but she still is decked out in fine style.

She’s the “India princess” doll, as named by three student judges, who gave her top honors in the city-wide Best-Dressed Goodfellows Doll Contest on Nov. 22 at the Compuware Art Gallery. For the second year in a row, a Goodfellows doll dressed by a Compuware employee won first place honors in the contest. The company has been a long- time financial supporter of the Goodfellows Contest, and has displayed the dolls in the final competition since 2003.

This year’s Compuware beauty was selected out of 150 finalists from 12,000 dolls, which will be distributed for Christmas to girls ages 4-10 from low-income families in Detroit, Highland Park, Hamtramck and River Rouge. (more…)
